Parishioner Rita Iafrate reflects on a recent pilgrimage that brought together members from both Immaculate Conception Church in Sutton, Ont., and Our Lady of the Lake Church in Keswick, Ont.

In June, our parish community embarked on a deeply meaningful and spiritually uplifting pilgrimage. Though Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of the Lake serve different areas, we are united as one parish family — and this journey beautifully reflected that shared identity.

The pilgrimage began in the early morning at Immaculate Conception Church under clear skies and warm sunshine, ideal conditions for a day of reflection, fellowship, and physical challenge. Over the course of the day, 80 participants and volunteers walked approximately 19 kilometres along the scenic shoreline of Lake Simcoe, taking time not only to appreciate the natural beauty surrounding them, but also to pray, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversations with fellow pilgrims.

Strategically placed refreshment breaks along the way provided opportunities for rest and rehydration, as well as moments of laughter and encouragement. Whether walking in quiet contemplation or joyful conversation, participants embraced the spirit of pilgrimage: one of purpose, humility, and connection.

The day culminated in a reverent and joyful celebration of the Eucharist celebrated by Fr. James Dunstan, parish pastor, at Our Lady of the Lake Church. The Mass was a fitting close to a journey that was not only physical but also profoundly spiritual. Following the celebration, everyone gathered for a shared meal, where stories were exchanged, friendships were strengthened and a deep sense of community and gratitude was felt by all.

This pilgrimage was a testament to the strength, unity, and vibrant spirit of our parish. It reminded us that although we may begin our journeys in different places, we are walking together in faith, always moving toward Christ. We give thanks for the many hands and hearts that made this day possible. Plans are already underway for more shared moments of faith, fellowship and renewal in the future.
